  • Digital Commerce 360 states that online sales are making gains and are projected to account for 17.0% of all retail sales within the next five years, according to Forrester Research Inc. In their latest report, “Forrester Data: Online Retail Forecast, 2017 to 2022,” Forrester writes that e-commerce will account for 17.0% of retail sales by 2022, up from a projected 12.9% in 2017.
As the above two articles report (plus many more) the future of ecommerce is strong and it will continue to expand globally into more markets and industries. With the ease of ordering from anywhere at any time – from any device ecommerce provides a solution that brick and mortar stores simply cannot offer. In fact, Ann Neal of in her article “6 Ways Retail Technology is Changing the Future of Online Shopping” reports that over 51% of Americans prefer shopping online. And when it comes to technology Neal’s report reveals that “86 million Americans use their smartphones for online shopping”.

Set goals, make a plan and how to become an ecommerce entrepreneur in 2019!

Here we are at the beginning of another new year. You are probably like many others who find themselves reflecting on your lives.  Is one of your resolutions to start a business? Have you always dreamed about being your own boss, but not sure how to become an entrepreneur? You may have the desire, but find it difficult to set goals, make a plan to reach those goals, and then actually perform the necessary steps to achieve the goal. That’s why we wanted to share some helpful tips  to become an entrepreneur that may make it somewhat easier for you to set the wheels in motion to make a change, set a goal and create a plan. Specifically, we want to help you chart a new and different course for yourself—one called “entrepreneurship”. Now it’s time to ask yourself these questions…..

What Do You Want?

First, you need to feel strongly that you want to make a change in your life. Maybe you’re tired of working for someone else. Maybe you find that you’re bored with your work and are just simply going through the motions. Maybe you want to feel that you fully own your accomplishments. Maybe you feel that you are not truly being challenged and rewarded. Maybe you are experiencing “wanderlust” and never seem to have enough time to travel.
Now, are you thinking about what you would like to change in your working situation? This could be a long list for you. If you’re coming up with strong feelings for the pieces of your situation that you want to change and reasons why you want to make a change, let this be the year you set goals to change the path you are on—and venture into entrepreneurship! But, spend time to arrive at what you want by researching and studying your options before setting a goal. Don’t be hasty in making a goal–you want to be sure your goal is congruent with what you desire.


What Goals Do I Need To Set? 

The next step is setting goals and making resolutions to make it a reality. At this time of year, we hear a lot of talk about “making resolutions.” Well, are resolutions and goals the same thing? Actually, they are not the same. The goal is the bigger picture, for example, “becoming an entrepreneur in 2019″. The resolutions comprise the smaller steps in making the bigger goal an actuality. In the example of becoming an entrepreneur, a resolution might be “researching different entrepreneurial avenues.” The resolutions are much more detailed, are specific, and have measurable timeframes.
Your goals need to be challenging, but realistic. A goal needs to be a bit of a stretch for you, but something that you know you can achieve with effort. When goals are unrealistic and too high, you are more likely to give up. If you really want the goal, make it realistic.
A very important part of getting what you want and achieving your goals is to clearly define and express what you want. You need to get specific with your goals and resolutions. A vague or nebulous goal is not easily achieved and will more than likely be dropped. It has been shown that by writing your goals down you will have a greater chance of achieving them. Putting them on notes and placing them where you can easily see them every day is a way to keep them at the forefront of your mind and intention.

How Do I Create A Plan?

Creating a plan is critical in achieving your goals. You must have action items (resolutions) that break down how you will achieve the goal into timelines and deadlines. In this way, you can measure your progress and accomplishments. You also create habits and routines that support achieving your goal.
Hold yourself accountable in working your plan – this will drive you to work harder. As you perform your resolutions, set systems in place that hold you accountable. Sharing your plan with someone like your spouse, a friend, a coach or mentor provides a support system that will help you in meeting those small steps to the larger goal. Be sure you celebrate when you reach those milestones, this will help drive you forward!

Can I Commit To My Goals?

You have to make a commitment to the goal, as well as, the resolutions all along the way. Without the commitment, you probably won’t meet the goal. Working toward a goal will take self-discipline, time, energy, and action—all of which allow you to stay on track.
